More Than 750 Nonprofit Organizations Apply for the 2009 Heart and Soul Grant Award Program

AUSTIN, TX, August 24, 2009 (www.ctkfoundation.org) – Applications have closed for the 2009 Heart and Soul Grant Award Program. More than 750 nonprofits, representing all 50 states and the District of Columbia, applied.

The Heart and Soul Grant Award Program opened in July for nonprofit organizations across the U.S. Made possible by the CTK Foundation Philanthropic Fund and Grammy Award-winning recording artists Los Lonely Boys, this grant represents an unusual and creative way for nonprofits to apply for funding.

To apply for the grant, submitting nonprofits were required to write a 4-8 line poem (lyrics) that represents the “heart and soul” of their mission. Now, a jury panel of recognized independent music artists and producers from around the country will select a winner based on the quality and impact of the poem.

The selected nonprofit organization will win a $10,000 cash grant and Los Lonely Boys will create a song, based upon the poem, which will be professionally produced in a recording studio. Applicants will also have the opportunity to be considered for one of four other in-kind grants, including 3 full-sized steel string acoustic guitars, signed by Los Lonely Boys, and donated by musical instrument maker First Act . Over 200 organizations also applied for a grant of CTK Apricot software for small and growing nonprofits.

The winner will be announced on September 21st, after which time key members of the winning nonprofit will be flown to Austin, Texas, for an evening gala where the song will be premiered by Los Lonely Boys.
